ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
75% Hardware and Software Support
- Provide technical assistance and customer service to employees and City Council members.
- Troubleshoot computer problems.
- Install and maintain computer hardware and software.
- Provide computer software training as necessary.
- Install, move, and maintain system hardware, including computers, printers, monitors, cabling, peripheral, and communication equipment.
- Maintain Information Technology asset inventory for non-network related items.
- Maintain end user telephone equipment. Assist in maintenance of telephone systems.
25% Computer Operations and Facility Maintenance Support
- Track inventory of existing computer equipment and updating as new hardware and software is purchased.
- Recommend computer software/applications that make the city more efficient.
- Provide assistance with the city s backup and file management operations.
- Understand and assist in the operation and maintenance of security/camera and building control systems.
- Assist as needed in maintaining computer network
- Install, move, and maintain network equipment, including servers, routers, hubs, and workstations.
- Assure the effective operation and maintenance of the Local and Wide Area Networks.
- Maintain system security and integrity with network software and regular system file backups
- Assist in maintenance of the city s file management operations.
- Provide computer and technological assistance with the city s record management systems.
- Respond to IT work ticket requests and track in maintenance log system.
- Assist in the documentation of information in the helpdesk knowledge base.
Continually looks for new and improved ways of completing the above functions. Other tasks as assigned will be performed in order to address business needs
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Latitude: Most duties are assigned and then employee arranges tasks in order to complete duties. Most problem-solving is accomplished in conjunction with supervisor. Duties will vary from day to day and employee will react to short notice requests for service. Some problem solving is required. Decisions are reviewed by supervisor.
Interaction: Frequent interaction with employees throughout the organization and vendors. Occasional contact with the general public.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Associate degree in Computer Science or related field, preferred.
- One year computer repair, troubleshooting, and installation experience, required.
- A certification, preferred.
- Valid Kansas driver s license, and driving record must meet commercial liability insurance requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- General knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office and Windows.
- Knowledge of Window networking systems.
- Ability to repair, upgrade, and replace computer hardware.
- Ability to understand and use new computer software.
- Ability to understand and maintain security and building controls systems.
- Ability to meet and deal tactfully with employees and the general public and to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: Office environment. Occasional (25%) carrying, lifting, moving, or pushing of 50 pounds. Frequent bending, squatting, and twisting. Frequent use of manual dexterity and visualization of a computer screen throughout the day. Occasional evening hours and overtime are required to respond to network and facility emergencies.
