Job Posting Information

Summary/Purpose
Prepare and paint natural gas meters, fire hydrants, and related piping throughout the City.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Perform the painting of a variety of exterior and interior surfaces.
2. Prepare surfaces for painting or repainting by pressure washing, sandblasting, grinding, and/or sanding to remove dirt and loose paint.
3. Place masking tape over fixtures and other surfaces that are not to be coated.
4. Maintain equipment and tools.
5. Select premixed paints and prepare paint to match specified colors if needed.
6. Apply prime and finish paints, and rust preventative materials to a variety of surfaces.
7. Operate tools and equipment used in painting.
8. Perform other job duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Age Requirement
A. Must be age 18 or older.

License Requirement
A. Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver's license or equivalent.

Education & Experience Requirements
A. Painting experience preferred.

Any applicant who has been found qualified to participate in a selection process for a position in the classified service who has reason to contest the validity or fairness of any step in the selection process may appeal to the Civil Service Board within 10 calendar days of the examination. (If the examination is an Education/Experience Review, the applicant must appeal within 10 calendar days of the closing date for accepting applications.) The notice of appeal shall be in writing, shall contain a complete statement of the matter in controversy and the relief requested, and shall be signed and dated by the appellant. The notice shall be addressed to the Civil Service Board and be delivered to the Human Resources Office.
