Education and Experience: High School Diploma, GED, or higher, and completion of an industry specific training vocational or certification program through a vocational school, trade school, or technical school.
Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.
Note – The trainee will be eligible for hire as a “Facilities Maintenance Worker” upon successful completion of the City of El Paso Facilities Maintenance Worker trainee on-the-job training program.
General Purpose
Under immediate supervision, attend and complete classroom and on-the-job training in a variety of building maintenance repairs, installations and related services involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC and building maintenance.
Typical Duties
- Attend and successfully complete classroom sessions and on-the-job training to gain knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform building maintenance related duties such as: repairing and maintaining doors and locks, glass and windows, flooring, roofs, painting, plumbing, HVAC, renovations, landscaping, irrigation, and field work.
- Learn to repair and replace electrical motors, security systems, perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems, maintain water and sump pumps, repair refrigerators, stoves, dishwashers and small appliances.
- Learn and understand City building operations and functions such as: fire and security alarms, water heaters and boilers, lighting systems and other facilities systems.
- Learn how to identify parts, equipment, materials and supplies needed for repairs and installations. Become familiar with the tools of the trade and understand how and when to use the proper tools for the job.
- Work cooperatively with assigned mentors such as: plumbers, electricians, roofers, building maintenance workers, HVAC technicians, painters and/or other skilled trades workers.
