Description/Job Summary
I. | INTRODUCTION |
Functions under the direct supervision of the Chief of Security; however, has considerable latitude in making independent professional decisions and recommendations for actions that can have a serious impact on resident’s lives. Provides direction and guidance to all staff utilizing sound correctional practices and procedures. The duties of this position require direct constant contact with individuals in confinement who are suspected or convicted of offenses against the criminal laws of the United States. This position has continuous contact with residents, staff and other criminal justice agencies and is required to be responsive to their needs. This position is a paraprofessional role involving interpersonal and technical skills. This position may require you to work weekends and rotating shifts. Work is performed inside and outside of the facility depending on the nature of the assignment.
II. | RESPONSIBILITIES AND MAJOR DUTIES |
Oversees Security Staff, Sanitation at the facility, and assists with training and scheduling of staff. Has direct responsibility for the security of the facility and the security supervision of all residents. Collaborates with the Security Chief in the design and execution of studies determining program effectiveness and the need for modifications and improvement. Maintains accurate and current records and reports on all Security Officers and residents as deemed necessary by the Director. Observes, records, and reports any conduct of Security Officers or residents which is in violation of the policies and procedures of the City of Faith or Federal Bureau of Prisons. Must be familiar with the emergency plans of the center. Is subject to call in cases of emergency.
III. | SPECIFIC DUTIES |
- Has Primary responsibility for LMA – Lead, Manage and Accountability.
- Assist the Security Chief in scheduling all personnel to ensure that trained, physically able, paid staff is on duty twenty-four hours a day.
- Assist the Security Chief in completing staff evaluations on all Resident Security staff members.
- Participate in weekly referral staffing.
- Participate in internal audits.
- Develops and fosters a positive interaction between the City of Faith and other criminal justice agencies.
- May represent the City of Faith at professional conferences, and university sponsored events.
- Knowledge of Federal Bureau of Prison disciplinary policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of Federal Bureau of Prison Statement of Work.
- Ensure that random checks on residents in house and residents on pass or furlough to confirm their location are accomplished and proper documentation is completed.
- Along with the Security Chief, has direct responsibility for all aspects of the urinalysis screening program.
- Develops and conducts training in correctional techniques and practices.
- Collaborates with Case Management in contacting residents on Home Confinement Status.
- Ensure that searches of the facility, personal belongings, and vehicles are accomplished in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and City of Faith standards.
- Ensure that the proper documentation required for the position is complete and accurate.
- Review Security Staff documentation to ensure quality and completeness.
- All other duties as assigned.
IV. | DEMONSTRATED KNOWLEDGE. ABILITIES AND SKILLS |
This position requires a demonstrated ability to follow detailed policies and procedures. Possess the ability to work independently and to function without close supervision and supervise staff members and residents. Demonstrated ability in interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and non-verbally. Ability to influence offenders’ attitudes and actions toward phases of the correctional program, and to serve as an appropriate role model. This position requires a valid driver’s license. Must be familiar with the City of Faith emergency plan, and with the physical plans of the facility. Is subject to call in cases of emergency. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe, and ability to navigate online programs.
V. | TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE |
Three (3) years of experience in correctional supervision or correctional management of incarcerated offenders is required. A bachelor’s degree in a Social or Behavioral Science field is acceptable in place of training and/or experience. Any combination of these requirements along with prior experience in the field of Security/Public Safety will be considered. Additionally, this position requires a demonstrated knowledge of correctional techniques.
