What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLANNER - SENIOR position at City of Fort Pierce?
The City of Fort Pierce is seeking a professional planner to carry out complex planning projects as a Senior Planner. This position is a journey level position in the professional planner series. The Senior Planner position reports directly to the Planning Manager and is expected to perform assigned tasks with independence and self-direction. The Senior Planner position must demonstrate strong analyst and writing capabilities, ability to communicate effectively, both in person and virtually.
A Senior Planner is a highly responsible, professional position that involves a high-level planning skill set with an ability to complete assignments successfully through collaboration with a wide range of people, including internal and external agencies; developers; consultants; and the general public. The purpose of this classification is to implement the City’s comprehensive plan and land development regulations. This position involves managing the development review process, providing professional and technical review to boards and committees, and providing excellent customer service. The ideal candidate will have advanced training/experience with comprehensive plans, land use and zoning regulation, ability to review detailed site plans and complex development projects, conduct building permit review, prepare staff reports, and present at public hearings.
Knowledge of Florida planning laws required, and AICP preferred. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work well independently as well as with local government staff and elected officials.
