Position Summary

Responsible for the daily operation of athletics programs for the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. Responsible for the coordination, administration, implementation of all athletic programs, activities and events.

 

Target Hiring Range: $52,978/yr - $65,666/yr

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists the Convention and Visitor Bureau Administrator with recruiting and operating regional, state and national level tournaments to Garland.
  • Evaluates existing athletic programming to identify needs and improvements. Researches trends, demographics and community needs to develop athletic programs, events and activities.
  • Develops, plans and implements a variety of programs and events.
  • Serve as liaison for various sport associations and assists in the facilitation and coordination of activities.
  • Prepares, updates and ensures compliance of Facility Use Agreements and contracts.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with administration, staff, other departments, volunteers, sports associations, contract instructors and citizens.
  • Evaluates weather conditions and field conditions in order to make decisions on facility closures.
  • Serves as Special Olympics liaison for the department. Assists with registrations, field allocations, transportation and ADA compliance.
  • Maintains all appropriate records.
  • Assist the Aquatics and Athletics Manager in the budget management of the department’s budget. Controls and accounts for the expenditure of funds in accordance of the approved budget.
  • Assist with the daily operation to include answering phones, taking registrations, reserving facilities and maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Ensures timely follow-through on customer requests and complaints, and handles difficult customer situations with respect and professionalism.
  • Evenings and weekend hours are required.
  • Minimum Education & Work Experience

     4 years college degree  3 years related experience Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

    Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills

    Education/ Experience:     

     
    • Bachelors degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, or related field of study
    • 3-5 progressive experience in municipal or private recreation and administration work
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

     

    • Basic knowledge of parks and recreation operations
    • Comprehensive knowledge of rules, regulations and safety precautions related to athletic activities
    • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of athletic and sports planning and organization
    • Comprehensive knowledge of indoor and outdoor athletic facilities repair and maintenance
    • Skill in operating computer software programs including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and program registration software
    • Ability to plan and supervise athletic programs

     

    Licenses & Certifications

     Valid Class C Texas driver's license  CPR, AED, Sports Management School

    Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

    The incumbent works in an office and outside environment; occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards
