JOB TYPE: Full Time
PAY: $43,305.00 - $65,815.00
JOB SUMMARY: Performs a wide variety of medium to complex research related activities involved in the collection, analysis and dissemination of crime data and other criminal intelligence information designed to enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement resources and programs. Work involves the development of links between criminals and crime groups, formulation of theories regarding crime trends, patterns and perpetrators.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Conduct research, gather and compile information, analyze data and identify crime
patterns, interpret data and develop comprehensive reports.
Prepare and maintain files of projects.
Research, maintain and disseminate intelligence information.
Provide analytical support to law enforcement.
Prepare graphs, charts and tables.
Prepares reports and statistical analyses.
Attend intelligence/investigative/professional association meetings and develop close working relationships with other crime analysts in outside law enforcement agencies.
Assist detectives with investigations into various crimes.
Develop and maintain intelligence sources and disseminate information needed.
Attend public meetings with citizens to answer questions and present crime data
Attend training; locally, out of the area, and online.
Prepare “pin” maps indicating “hot spots” of crime activity.
Responds to requests for statistical reports from citizens, businesses or other law
enforcement agencies.
Prepares and submits monthly/quarterly statistical reports.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:
Knowledge of basic principles and practices of investigation, field operations, crime prevention and intelligence gathering.
Knowledge of the operation of the REJIS system.
Knowledge of statistical methods.
Knowledge crime analysis methods
Knowledge Microsoft Office products.
Knowledge of basic research methods.
Knowledge of department records management system.
Knowledge of confidentiality regulations and guidelines.
Skill in the operation of standard office equipment.
Skill in the operation of computers and various software programs; specifically, software products related to crime analysis including MoDEX and NDEX systems.
Skill in utilizing the Kansas City Emerging Threat Analysis (KC-ETAC) computer network (COPLINK), a law enforcement forensic data analysis system.
Skill in oral and written communication.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years, or two or more years’ experience as police officer.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass a background check with no previous felony or serious misdemeanor arrests.
