This position offers a $2,000.00 hiring bonus.

 Bonus to be paid as follows: $1,000 after 30 days of employment and $1,00 after 6 months of employment. You must be an active employee at the time the hiring bonus is scheduled to be paid to receive the bonus. Current regular status City of Glendale employees are not eligible for hiring bonuses. 

Performs journey-level work in the preventive maintenance, repair and installation of commercial HVAC / Refrigeration equipment and automation control. Journeyman-level workers may provide guidance to lesser experienced team members on specific projects.

HVAC
  1. Performs a variety of tasks, including daily inspections, monitoring and repair/maintenance of all commercial HVAC/Refrigeration equipment in city-owned structures and facilities to ensure systems are running efficiently.
  2. Performs annual and semi-annual scheduled inspections, repairs and preventive maintenance of the Central Plant and other city-owned HVAC/Refrigeration systems to include compressors, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, boilers and pumps.
  3. Diagnoses mechanical and electrical malfunctions; installs, replaces, or repairs damaged or worn equipment.
  4. Operates, maintains and troubleshoots Building Automated Control Systems and digital electronic HVAC controls.
  5. Coordinates and works with contractor's plans and specifications; reads, interprets and performs duties from blueprints.
  6. Maintains accurate inventory, maintenance records, specifications, documents and financial transactions and records as required by City, State, and EPA.
  7. Responds to emergency service requests, some of which occur outside normal City business hours.
  8. Ensures installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of the appropriate city codes, installation requirements, manufacturer's specifications, environmental protection requirements, OSHA/safety requirements and relevant legislation.
  9. Observes and complies with all safety requirements in the performance of duties.
  10. Performs maintenance and repairs in other trades such as electrical, plumbing and carpentry as needed.
  11. Schedules and coordinates work with other department departments and contractors as needed.
  12. Maintains logs, records, inventory, service requests, invoices, and financial records.
  13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 
Two (2) years of trade school, or college level course work in electrical wiring, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing or related field, three (3) years of work experience and journey level certification relative to the area of assignment.

Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of one or more skilled trades in the maintenance/construction trades field
OSHA safety regulations
Federal, state and county codes and regulations specific to construction and maintenance
Electrical and refrigeration operations and equipment, such as components, symbols, schematics, compressors, relays, and motors
Commercial, industrial and central plant HVAC maintenance and repair
Plumbing maintenance and repair
Tools associated with construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC
Tools associated with HVAC installation, electrical and piping, such as meters, torches, recovery
Blueprint reading

Ability to:
Respond to emergency service needs at any time
Diagnose problems and troubleshoot or make recommendations
Interpret assignments from blueprints, schematics, wirings, drawings and sketches
Work independently in the absence of supervision
Understand and follow oral and written directions
Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
Work in confined spaces
Use hand and power tools
Establish and maintain effective relationships with those encountered in the course of the work

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Special Requirements
A valid driver's license at time of application
Must obtain valid Arizona driver's license before date of hire
Subject to call back after normal shift hours, weekends
May be subject to standby duty requirements
Some positions will require special journey level certification and/or endorsement, required by the EPA (environmental protection act) for the recovery of cfc's (chlorofluorocarbon) in air conditioning systems
Applicants will be required to undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy
