What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Employee position at City of Graysville?
Employees in this position perform a variety of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of city vehicles, facilities, equipment and tools. Additionally, employees handle a variety of materials, conduct clean-up activities and general maintenance of City right-of-way and related utilities with demonstrative ability in the following, but not limited to:
- Shoveling snow and applying de-icing material to roadways/parking lots, Sidewalks etc;
- Maintaining roadways by repairing cracks and pot holes or applying new asphalt;
- Maintaining municipal-wide facilities including park grounds;
- Mowing City rights-of-way along roadways and other public property;
- Collecting litter, emptying trash, opening and closing City facilities;
- Inspecting, reporting and repairing of City infistructure, such as pipes and meters;
- Locating, uncovering and reading water meters.
- Controlling traffic at job sites, operating digging equipment, moving material etc.;
- Maintaining department fleet and equipment in an perscribed manner.
Employees perform routine tasks requiring the use of acquired skills and knowledge and may not perform work in all aforementioned areas. Assignments, most times involve working with members of a crew, and at times, working independently.
Persons applying for this position MUST:
- Pass a drug screen;
- Have a valid drivers license;
- Pass a criminal back ground check.
- Pass a 90 day probationary period.
- Live within 30 miles of Graysville to drive city truck home.
- Be on call at night and on weekends.
- Work weekends as needed.
Persons hired to this position will recieve:
- $12.00 per hour during 90 day probationary period.
- $13.00 per hour after 90 day probationary period.
- Time and a Half over 40 hours.
- A city truck to drive home if you live within 30 miles of Graysville.
- Vacation / PTO in accordance with city policy.
Due to our size we do not offer health benifits at this time.

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- On call
- Weekends as needed
