The full salary range is: $40,453-$72,390. The expected hiring range is $40,453-$53,228 depending on qualifications, with an excellent benefits package. Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
The Cemetery Crew Supervisor is responsible for a field crew consisting of three (3) full-time employees and three (3) seasonal employees that maintain the City’s four (4) municipal cemeteries. This position deals with unique operational requirements not encountered in other City facilities dealing with a demanding and often distraught clientele. This position requires not only an understanding of the unique operational requirements but also the ability to deal with the public in an understanding and compassionate manner.
The crew supervisor manages all aspects of an active operational cemetery including interments, dis-interments, marker/monument installation, special commemorative programs (Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day, Wreaths Across America, etc.), and all other maintenance and operational duties.
This position is responsible for developing and scheduling pesticide applications, lawn fertilization, tree and shrub pruning, mowing schedules, and interments. Assists, supervises, and participates in cemetery renovations and other related duties as required.
This position is Service-Critical and subject to working during special events, storm cleanup, and other City events as needed. This position is required to work in all types of weather including extreme heat and cold. It requires the ability to lift 50 lbs. and involves standing and stooping.
This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED with 1-3 years of Cemetery experience including the ability to read maps, locate graves, maintain records
- "OR" No High School Diploma / GED with 5-7 years of Cemetery experience including the ability to read maps, locate graves, maintain records
- Valid driver's license
- Valid Class A CDL Driver’s License (“OR” the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment)
- Valid NC Pesticide License (“OR” the ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment)
- Experience in light construction equipment including backhoes, tractors, front-end loaders, commercial lawn equipment, trenchers, dump trailers, and light grading equipment
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with EAM procedures
- Experience with City Purchasing Procedures
- Pesticide Application Experience
- Experience with Lawn Maintenance (landscaping or lawncare)
