Work Schedule: May to August - approximately 40 hrs a week; not to exceed 1,000 hours in a year. We are seeking talented and enthusiastic individuals, with positive attitudes, strong work ethic, and passion for making a difference in Greensboro.Brief Description of Work: The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is a dynamic team transforming the way needs are met and services are provided to our residents. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Summer Camp Counselor for Teen Camp- Caldcleugh Center. A counselor with the Teen Camp is responsible for overall day-to-day group programming, discipline, direct supervision and management of camp participants. Must be able to relate to middle school/high school youth (ages 13-15) and conduct age-appropriate activities.Responsibilities and duties will include: Serving a role model to the teens by exemplifying the City of Greensboro’s Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Stewardship).Develops an awareness and familiarity with the individual interests and behaviors of the participants.Facilitate both formal and informal activities.Assist with the planning, organizing, and implementation of a daily schedule of activities including crafts, sports, wellness, games, music, drama, field trips, etc.Provides emergency response as per training when necessary.Assist in managing administrative camp aspects (emergencies, parents, staff, organizing activities, etc.).Responsible for accurate record keeping and reporting.Fields and responds to inquiries regarding Tween Camp with appropriate and accurate information.Assists with set-up and breakdown of activities and cleaning of program area.Maintains positive and appropriate relations with teens, parents, staff, etc.Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, staff trainings, etc.Provides exceptional customer service.Be enthusiastic and engaging about camp making it safe space for participants. The selected applicant must possess great communication skills to ensure the highest level of customer service, have knowledge of safe work practices, ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and have the ability to be trained in RecTrac (recreational software). The physical requirements of the job include but are not limited to: walking, standing, sitting for extended times, jogging, running and jumping for the purpose of instructing/leading recreation programs, lifting up to 30lbs and operating assigned equipment and vehicles as needed.This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Other Recruitment Requirements: Must be available to report to work in mid-May for orientation.Must be available for the entire camp season.May apply to participate in a First Aid / CPR class for staff prior to summer season to attain certificationsMust attend all training prior to the start of camp.
