The Equipment Operator will operate and maintain a variety of automotive-type equipment; light and heavy construction equipment; and other related vehicles and equipment. This position also maintains streets with repairs to asphalt, storm drains, sidewalks, guardrails, etc.

Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.). Working knowledge of engineering construction controls and proper construction techniques.

Experience: Three years of experience in the operation of light and heavy construction equipment and maintenance of the same.

License & Certification: Must have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record in accordance with City policy. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred. Employee must obtain a CDL within 12 months of their hire date with air brake and tanker endorsement. Must obtain a work zone safety flagger’s card within six months of employment.

Essential Functions: Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to: Operates a variety of equipment such as: wheel and crawl tractors, integral wheel loader backhoes, crawler loader-dozers, articulated loaders, articulated graders, excavators, street sweepers, rollers, riding mowers, heavy snow plows, dump trucks, and other related equipment and vehicles; Performs routine driver-level maintenance, repairs and/or adjustments at a semi-skilled level of vehicle maintenance. Reports any defects found during use; Performs job tasks of a semi-skilled laborer. Operates and conducts field repairs on the following equipment: air-hammers, air drills, compressors, and other related equipment; Follows grade and other engineering construction controls and exercises proper construction techniques in performance of job tasks.
