Vacancy is in the Town Clerk Department/Vital Records Unit. Under general supervision, to assist in the administration of a city public health program by supervising and participating in the registration and analysis of vital statistics in a central bureau of vital records and public health statistics. Supervises and participates in the registration of births, marriages, and deaths in the city, and in the compilation and analysis of vital and public health statistics; Issues marriage licenses, reviews blood test reports and divorce decrees for compliance with statutes, and administers oaths where required by law; Issues burial, cremation, disinterment, removal and transportation permits for disposal of dead bodies, prepares affidavits when necessary, and checks and verifies all death documents before they are permanently recorded; Examines birth, still birth, and belated birth certificates received by the bureau for accuracy and completeness; Supervises the preparation of photo static and other copies of vital records, and signs attested copies of records of births, marriages, deaths, and other vital and health records; Prepares a variety of reports for City, State, and Federal health authorities and for private health agencies; Receives, records, and deposits cash collected in the department; Types letters, reports, affidavits, adoption cards, permits, certifications and related materials. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application. It may also include a written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination will be designed to measure the knowledge of basic principles and practices of public health; Methods, practices, and procedures involved in recording vital statistics; Legal requirements and limitations as they pertain to the recording of vital statistics and issuance of copies of vital records; Modern office practices, procedures and equipment; Ability to maintain clerical records of considerable complexity, and to prepare reports from such records; Type with proficiency; Plan, assign, and supervise the work of clerical subordinates; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and the general public.

If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. If appointed, you will be required to serve three (3) to twelve (12) months of probation.
