Vacancy is in the Lead Program of the Environmental Health Division of the Health and Human Services Department. This posting will remain open until sufficient applications are received. Under Supervision, assists in the administration of the City’s public health program by participating in routine inspections and regulation activities of general environmental sanitation. Provides epidemiological and environmental investigations of lead poisoning cases. Conducts prompt environmental inspections in dwellings where children with elevated blood lead levels reside. Performs environmental testing of housing. Conducts risk reduction education with families. Writes reports to providers, case managers, and State Health Department. Transmits orders to owners for lead abatement from properties. Conducts Healthy Home inspections, assists with conducting bid walks with contractors and reviews bid packages. Works closely with contractors and property owners to bring properties to compliance. Performs related work as required. 

This is a CHPEA union position. The hours of this position are 40 per week.
The examination will consist of rating your training and experience as contained on your application. It may also include a written test, an oral test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination will be designed to measure: Knowledge of modern methods, practices, and techniques of public health sanitation as applied to the sanitation of milk producers, diaries, food serving establishments, and retail and manufacturing establishments. Knowledge of the laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to municipal environmental sanitation. Ability to enforce regulatory provisions firmly and objectively. Ability to obtain the cooperation of the general public in establishing optimum standards of sanitation in the interest of public health. Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and to obtain information through interview, interrogation, and observation. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
 
Open to all applicants who meet the following qualifications:
 
High School graduate or GED, supplemented by two (2) years of college AND two (2) years of responsible experience in the field of public health sanitation involving public contact.

Possession of a valid driver's license is required.  A copy of your driver's license should be submitted with the application. 

A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION.  A DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.  

HARTFORD RESIDENCY PREFERRED: A completed CITY OF HARTFORD RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT including proof of residency as indicated on the RESIDENCY AFFIDAVIT may be submitted.

If selected for the position, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening examination, and a background check. If appointed, you will be required to serve (3) three to (12) twelve months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
