What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood -Site Director position at City of Hartford?
Vacancy is in the Early Learning Center of the Department of Families, Children, Youth, and Recreation. Under direction, plans and implements developmentally appropriate curriculum and research-based instructional practices to meet the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of pre-school infants, toddlers and/or preschoolers children. Supervises subordinate staff, administers developmental assessments and participates in carrying out a program of intentionally planned developmentally appropriate activities based on individually assessed needs of pre-school young children. Reviews and approves menu plans and food purchases as well as coordinating with food providers to ensure Recommended Daily Allowances. Evaluates and prepares a written developmental assessment evaluation of each child and convenes parent-teacher conferences. Communicates with families, monitors for family priorities and needs, and makes referrals as appropriate. Supervises and maintains developmental records on individual children in accordance with federal, state and local requirements and prepares a variety of related records and reports. Performs related work as required.
Duties
- Develop curriculum that meets the learning goals of the center and supports cognitive development of the children.
- Work with Teachers to develop lesson plans that support curriculum; ensure they have access to appropriate materials.
- Review Teacher notes and comments and make suggestions for improvement.
- Collaborate with Teachers to prepare means of sharing curriculum with parents.
- Identify educational opportunities to further develop skills of center staff.
- Stay abreast of new developments in early learning curricula; introduce curricula improvements.
- Follow all center policies and state regulations.
- Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Requirements
Knowledge of early childhood development, theories, and research-based effective instructional techniques for children six weeks to six years old; Knowledge of health, hygiene, and safety precautions to be taken in dealing with children; Knowledge of child psychology; Knowledge of the symptoms of physical, cognitive and emotional delays or disorders in children; Ability to supervise subordinate employees; Knowledge of adult-learning practices and methods; Knowledge of family centered services and family dynamics; Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally; Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with all teachers, parents, and volunteers in planning and implementing activities for the classroom.
