PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform semi-skilled manual labor and equipment operation in the installation, repair, and maintenance of water lines, wastewater lines, stormwater lines, and related utility system components.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS REQUIRED FOR POSITION The following duties must be present to promote or be hired into this position.
Requisite knowledge of the tools, equipment, and processes necessary to individually perform the duties listed below are required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Extensions on both deadlines may be granted on a case-by-case basis by the Department Head and General Manager).
Additional Desired : Class 1 (or higher) Water Distribution or Wastewater Collections license. Some experience and / or training involving equipment operation, construction labor, or maintenance work on utility lines.
Fork truck certification / experience.

Verbal Aptitude : Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude : Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; this may include counting, recording of counts, and basic measuring.
Functional Reasoning : Requires the ability to carry out detailed but routine written or oral instructions. This involves routine work according to clearly prescribed standard practices with some latitude for independent judgment.
Situational Reasoning : Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties which are often characterized by frequent change.
ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability : Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements : Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, depth and visual cues or signals.
Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors : Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, bright / dim lights, or toxic agents.
