The City of Hesperia is seeking a highly motivated and dependable Public Works Inspector who is familiar with principles, procedures, methods, and materials used in public works projects and stormwater management, including appropriate safety practices. This role is responsible for overseeing the inspection and review of Capital Improvements, Public Works Construction Projects and Storm Water Management programs to ensure compliance with safety regulations, specification, environmental quality and approved plans.
Your Role
As the Public Works Inspector, you will inspect and review construction projects such as streets, curbs, gutters, storm drains and other related construction; review plans and investigate injury and damage claims against the City. You will inspect sanitary and storm sewer discharges at various locations; investigate and trace the sources of illegal waste; respond to public complaints regarding NPDES and FOG discharges. In addition, you will also complete daily, detailed inspection reports to convey issues, scope of work performed and traffic control.

Minimal Qualifications
- The equivalent of four (4) years of experience in journey level public works inspection or construction experience or the performance of related work. Coursework in construction management and inspections, civil engineering, hydraulics or environmental studies, storm water, water and/or wastewater technology is desirable.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class “C” California driver’s license
- When assigned to Stormwater:
o Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board, within one (1) year of assignment.
o Possession of, Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI) through Enviro Cert International Inc. or Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control In. or equivalent certification, within one (1) year of assignment.
