Seasonal Park Attendant (Operations) City Lake Park

The Park Attendant employee will operate amusements and assist with marina operations at High Point City Lake Park. Amenities include operation of an excursion boat, carousel, miniature train, and putt-putt golf. Seasonal Park Attendants will assist in marina activities, such as renting recreational water vessels and perform general clerical work. This position also performs routine maintenance on all said amenities and activities; does related work as required. 

Work is performed under immediate supervision of a Park Supervisor. 

  • Opens facility and greets customers.
  • Informs patrons of local and state fish, game and boating regulations.
  • Sells fishing and boating permits, fishing tackle, and live bait including minnows and worms.
  • Rents boats, kayaks, stand up paddleboards, pedal boats, and life jackets.
  • Drains boats upon return and prepares them for next rental (inspects and repairs).
  • Collects tickets for and operates amusement rides including train, carousel, and excursion boat.
  • Performs regular daily maintenance of equipment and ticket booths.
  • Operates concession stand, sells amusement ride tickets, merchandise, and food items.
  • Prepares daily revenue and attendance reports, and scheduled reports of revenue collections and safety inspections.
  • Oversees miniature golf operation, dispenses clubs, balls, and score cards; monitors golf play and participant behavior; gives general park information and directions to shelters, rides, etc.;
  • Performs daily maintenance on amusement rides, concession stand and gate booth cleaning before and after operation;
  • Prepares food items, stocks resell items such as crackers and potato chips, and operates various related machines, i.e., popcorn popper, cotton candy, fountain drinks, etc.
  • Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA City Standards and Policies.
  • Formal Education, which includes basic arithmetic.
  • Must be able to work with all types of people, particularly young children.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Must be 16 years of age to operate rides.

 

Physical Requirements

Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are necessary to converse with program participants, facility patrons, and coworkers.

Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:

  • Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see other workers from a distance for safety reasons when operating amusements, etc.  Both eyes 20/25 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected
  • Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see nails, paint brushes, and other work aids close at hand.   Both eyes 20/22 corrected
  • Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances so as to use both hands in performing different tasks at the same time.   Depth perception – 4
  • Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see wide span to cover playground with children and other people entering and leaving to assure safety. Must be alert to surroundings.
  • Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly.  This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye.  Must be able to adjust eye lens to focus readily when glancing from near work to distance work to monitor activities and ensure safety at all areas. 

Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include:

  • Medium to Heavy Work
    1. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to handle or move materials related to the position.
    2. Work requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, stretching, pushing, and pulling, although worker does sit on occasions.  There is significant use of arms, hands, feet, and legs.

    1. Reaching - Extending the hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
    2. Handling - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand(s).
    3. Fingering - Picking, pinching or otherwise working with fingers primarily rather than the entire hand or arm.

  • The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.  Ability to be conversant in voice and diction to participate in discussions in person and by telephone.

Physical Surroundings

  • The Park Attendant employee is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions:   Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot environment.

Hazards

  • The Park Attendant employee will be exposed to working outside in a range of weather conditions and occasionally around controlled burning operations.  Employee will be exposed to trash and garbage. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.

  • Items which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: Gasoline powered miniature train, 20 horse electric merry-go-round, 70 horse power outboard, 32 ft. excursion boat, popcorn machine, cotton candy machine, nacho cheese dispenser, drink fountain, cash register, typewriter, calculator, mop and broom.
