City of Hope in Duarte, California is seeking a candidate for a per diem position as a Cytotechnologist. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing cytopathologic diagnosis of benign and malignant conditions and conducting quantitative and qualitative cytologic tests on various cell samples. These tests aim to determine the presence or absence of cancer, infectious processes, and other cellular abnormalities. The Cytotechnologist will be crucial in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of laboratory operations to meet patients' needs based on medical staff determinations.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Perform cytodiagnosis of both benign and malignant conditions alongside a pathologist. This involves classifying slides, recording classifications, and presenting slides with abnormal cell structures to the pathologist for further examination.
- Be responsible for staining and mounting slides, examining human body cells to detect evidence of cancer or other diseased conditions.
- Compile a listing of patients for follow-up analysis of specimens
- Prepare and analyze new specimens for cell changes, and report findings to the pathologist.
- Prepare written cytopathologic diagnostic reports using recognized terminology and make recommendations for further evaluation or treatment.
- Be responsible for maintaining cytotechnologist's screening workload statistics and other related data as required by regulatory agencies and the laboratory manager.
- Develop, maintain, and participate in staff educational programs and provide technical instruction to other departments.
- Attend seminars, workshops, and maintain professional affiliations. This will help maintain their certification and licensure while staying up to date with the latest trends in the field of expertise.
Qualifications
Your qualifications should include:
- Bachelor's Degree or ASCP Certification as a Cytotechnologist, grandfather clause.
- Three to five years in a cytology lab as a certified cytotechnologist.
- Graduate of ASCP approved cytotechnologist school
- California Cytotechnologist license
- Certification as a Cytotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists CT(ASCP) is preferred.
