DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Public libraries are trusted community and cultural centers that serve a highly diverse populace. At Houston Public Library, we understand that diversity in experiences, perspectives, knowledge, and ideas fuels creativity, broadens knowledge and helps drive success. The Houston Public Library is seeking a creative, resourceful, and team-oriented Community Liaison to join Central Library’s Community Resource Center team. Working with the Senior Community Liaison, the selected candidate will develop and coordinate community centered services and programs that are responsive to the existing and emergent community needs.
Responsibilities: -
Works to build relationships with members of vulnerable populations (such as people in crisis or at risk of crisis, people facing homelessness, poverty, addictions and or mental illness) without judgement.

Develop strategic, effective partnerships that connect underserved populations with library services.

Connects, builds, and maintain collaborative relationships with community agencies neighborhood groups, social services agencies, and volunteer organizations.

Maintain documentation, statistics and reports on projects, goals and programs related to social services and outreach activities.

Provide information and assistance to library customers.

Requires evenings and weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) 8am-8:15pm shift work on a rotating basis.

Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires stooping and bending; lifting of library materials up to 20 pounds. Must be able to move freely throughout the library to file/retrieve library materials. Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, Business Administration or a related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years of experience in community organizational work, resource and referral services, or a closely related field are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED None
However, the Department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.

If yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
Pay Grade 18
