The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Recreation Assistant PT to join its Recreation & Wellness - Tennis Center Section.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinate and monitor recreation activities at Lee LeClear Tennis Center.
  • Provide friendly customer service in person, by phone and when handling court reservations, fee collections and programming information.
  • Ensure safety by enforcing facility rules and regulations with participants and the general public, as well as reporting any unsafe conditions to the supervisor and work orders as needed.
  • May resolve problems and counsel participants.
  • Assist with center preparation for programs and activities. 
  • Assist with facility, equipment and general maintenance when needed.
  • Must be a positive role model, promoting non-violent actions, and interacting positively with user groups and partners as well as the department. 
  • Responsible for opening and closing facilities.
  • Must be able and willing to work evenings, weekends and Holidays as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required.
 
There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) months of related experience are required. 
 
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May require a valid driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.* Sports background preferred, and tennis knowledge would be helpful.
* Preference shall be given to applicants who have knowledge in assisting tennis activities for all ages and abilities.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED
The selection process will involve application review and/or interview.

SALARY INFORMATION
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range is:

Pay Grade 6
