The City of Hudson is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO). This is a part-time position for approximately 24 hours per week.
Hudson’s Parking Enforcement Officers work under the general supervision of Police Department leadership and are responsible for the full range of parking enforcement functions, such as issuing standard citations and maintaining equipment. The Officer is expected to become increasingly knowledgeable of state and city laws, ordinances, procedures and practices pertaining to vehicles and parking, and to carry out assignments with increasing autonomy and accountability, and may provide lead direction to less experienced staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS
- Patrol and ticketing: Employee performs routine patrolling of the City of Hudson to ensure parking rules and regulations are being observed in parking lots, metered parking spaces, and on the street. A Parking Enforcement officer patrols on foot assigned areas (streets, parking lots, etc.) and issues tickets utilizing handheld enforcement hardware for expired meters, no parking zones, double parking, etc. and initiates the process of booting and towing vehicles in violation of city parking ordinances.
- Public communication: Enforcement Officers often interact with the public on an ongoing basis: receive, listen to and skillfully answer questions in reference to parking regulations and enforcement issues and citations. Answer questions from public regarding city geography and other general matters as necessary.
- Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with those encountered in the course of work, including hostile and irate citizens.
- Handle questions and concerns or refers complaints and requests to Parking Violations Bureau or his/her supervisor as warranted.
- Equipment maintenance: Maintains parking enforcement equipment, monitors proper functioning of meters and notifies Parking Violations Bureau of malfunctions that require repair.
- Monitor and report parking signing and marking problems to appropriate staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
- High school degree or equivalent
- Fluency in English
- Two or more years of experience involving heavy public contact or customer service
- Ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of equipment, including vehicles and handheld electronic devices
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations quickly and accurately
- Ability to remain calm under stressful situations
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires:
- standing, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
- both near and far vision, and acute hearing.
- working outdoors in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold, and employees may be exposed to fumes, dust, and air contaminants.
- working in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.
- the ability to lift, push, and drag equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- employees to work weekends, and may require response to after-hours emergencies and call-outs.
- wearing a uniform while on duty.
COMPENSATION: $20.00 per hour
This position is not a Civil Service position, is classified as non-competitive, and is not subject to civil service exam.
