The City of Idaho Falls is currently recruiting for a Building Maintenance- HVAC, Technician II. This position performs a variety journey level skilled electrical and related maintenance duties as needed to complete daily building and facilities maintenance, construction and renovation in compliance with approved plans and building codes.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED 

Works under the general supervision of the Building Maintenance Superintendent.
 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None.Performs preventive maintenance on building and facility systems and equipment; maintains HVAC system, including VAC boxes; calibrates thermostats; electrical systems, pneumatic controls, electrical and electronic controls, actuators, etc.; maintains boilers, domestic hot water systems and pumps.
 
Performs or assists as needed in the maintenance and repair work in a variety of skilled trades areas which includes but is not limited to:

Plumbing: Performs installation and repair of plumbing piping and fixtures, assures proper pump size to achieve required pressure; performs routine and complex plumbing; clears and cleans drain obstructions; maintains sinks, urinals, toilets; runs plumbing lines for new construction, sets new fixtures.

Carpentry: Performs rough and finish carpentry; maintains physical aspects of city buildings such as window and door frames, woodwork; fabricates shelving, repairs furniture; fabricates furniture; participates in all carpentry aspects of new construction, i.e., footings, foundations, framing, plumbing, electrical and electronic wiring, insulation, sheet rocking, painting, masonry, roofing, etc.

Masonry: Performs custom concrete work; sets forms, pours cement, finishes flat work; may apply custom designing and stamping for effect and beautification; seals surfaces; lays brick and block; may participate in pouring footings and foundations for new or remodel construction; accomplished in repairing, maintaining, and installation of tile and stone.

Painting:  Tapes and textures sheet rock wall surfaces; performs custom painting of facility interiors and exteriors; masks various areas to protect surfaces; applies primers and various finish coats; utilizes hand brushes, air brush and sprayers; applies paints, varnish, stain, etc.

Locksmith: Performs journey level locksmith duties in the installation, repair and maintenance of mechanical and electronic locks and related parts; cuts new, replacement or duplicate keys; repair, open and remove locks; operate a variety of equipment, key cutters, grinders, locksmith picks etc.; repairs all door problems and installs new hardware when needed; re-pin new and existing padlocks and cylinders to the master key system; alters lock combinations as requested.

Performs other related duties as assigned.1.  Education and Experience

A.  Graduation from high school; plus, two (2) years of specialized training provide through trade or technical school related to the maintenance and construction fields, facilities management, construction management;

AND

B.  Two (2) years of experience in the HVAC field;

OR

C.  An equivalent combination of education and experience.

2.  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of the control wiring; general architectural engineering principles and practices; legal environment associated with building operations, i.e., OSHA and ADA; facilities maintenance; current methods, principles and practices of building construction, maintenance and repair; equipment and materials used in construction and maintenance operations; price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment; hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities; legal environment related to safety and risk management practices and principles; current building codes, standards.  Some knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering.

Skill in the use of power and hand tools and equipment for electrician tasks; drafting equipment; air tools, and other tools required for minor repairs.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, maintain safety and risk management standards; maintain effective preventive maintenance programs; keep operating records and prepare reports; read and understand blueprints; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public; communicate effectively verbally and in writing in the English language.

3.  Special Qualifications:

Must possess a Journeyman HVAC License
Must possess a valid Idaho Drivers license. 
Must obtain a CDL Class B with Air Brakes within 6 months of hire.
Must be available for 24 hour emergency call out.
 Incumbent of the position performs outdoor work in the construction of various project. Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, and reaching.  Lifting requirements require frequent lifting in excess of 100 pounds. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate power tools and equipment. Essential functions require talking, hearing and seeing.   Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist.  Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.  Periodic travel required in normal course of job performance.
