The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is seeking an Assistant City Manager. The Assistant City Manager serves as an integral part of the executive leadership team, ensuring that strategic efforts are aligned in support of the City Manager's goals and objectives. Performs complex professional and difficult administrative work assisting the City Manager's office in day-to-day operations of the city government. Will support the City Manager with Special Projects and will coordinate the activities of assigned departments focused on technological disciplines; does related work as required.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
Reporting directly to the Deputy City Manager the position will perform highly responsible managerial and administrative work in the coordination, organization, and direction of City programs and services; will have daily interaction with the City Manager regarding special support projects focused on data collection and technological reporting. Promotes, encourages, and leads collaboratively in seeking new ways to share resources and implement best practices in order to optimize service delivery across the organization. Must possess exemplary interpersonal communication skills. Must be proactive in communicating with elected officials, staff, community members, and other stakeholders, while upholding/adhering to the City's mission, vision, and strategic direction. Must work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders to deliver effective solutions with a keen commitment to excellent customer service. Ability to gather, organize, examine, and evaluate data and or information to recommend effective solutions. Skills in analytical problem solving, decision making and negotiation, facilitation, and effective presentations is a must in this position.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a closely related field. A Master's degree in a related field is preferred. Five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant local government executive level experience is required. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
