SWIMMING LESSONS INSTRUCTOR
Position Summary
The Swimming Lessons Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program for students of various ages, grades, abilities and educational and social needs following the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum.

Position Summary
The Swimming Lessons Instructor is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program for students of various ages, grades, abilities and educational and social needs following the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim curriculum.
MAJOR POSITION DUTIES
- Wear a clean swimming in good repair, appropriate for teaching swimming lessons.
- Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to class time. Punch-in on time clock or smartphone app.
- Examine and evaluate the safety of the pool, pool deck and equipment.
- Set-up pool and equipment as necessary for the day’s classes
- Communicate with students, parents and other staff in a professional manner.
- Communicate clearly the learning objectives for the class level as prescribed in the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim curriculum.
- Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning of objectives.
- Provide a variety of learning activities using appropriate materials and resources to facilitate student learning.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of all educational materials and equipment.
- Monitor student performance and progress, and use the information to adjust teaching strategies.
- Provide appropriate feedback to students and parents on student performance, progress and needs.
- Manage student behavior by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Provide appropriate discipline as needed.
- Maintain accurate, legible attendance records on the attendance form. Submit completed attendance forms to Swimming Lessons Teacher at the completion of the course.
- Clean-up the pool. Pool deck and equipment at the completion of each day’s classes.
- Punch-out on the time clock or smartphone app at the completion of the day’s classes.
- Report incidents and concerns to the Recreation Program Manager in a timely manner.
- Attend all necessary program meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Recreation Program Manager.

- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Knowledge of American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim Curriculum.
- Ability to follow Kaukauna Recreation Department Time & Attendance procedures.
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification and prior teaching experience is preferred.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, climb, bend, lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.
- Ability to stand/sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to endure a variety of weather and temperature conditions for prolonged periods of time.
