The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Maintenance Mechanic Bldg.
This Full-Time Non-Exempt position is based on a 40 hour work week with a pay rate of $16.50 per hour to start. This position is part of the (PEU) Public Employees Union collective bargaining agreement and will work at Public Services Building located at 1749 3rd Avenue South, Lake Worth, FL 33460.

SUMMARY:
Skilled work at the journeyman level in construction, repair, and maintenance of buildings, structures, by performing the following duties. The required work involves the knowledge of a variety of mechanical and/or construction trades and the general construction, repair and maintenance tasks. Work assignments are reviewed in process and upon completion for compliance with instructions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs a variety of repair and maintenance tasks to buildings, structures and related facilities.
- Install, move and relocate office furniture; adjust and repair desks, shelves, file cabinets, chairs, and other types of office furniture and equipment.
- Installation, repair, and maintenance of; drywall, baseboard, ceiling tiles and grids, carpet, tile, signage, and other types of general building materials and fixtures.
- Operate a variety of power tools, including; circular saw, drill, impact driver, reciprocating saw, hammer drill, pressure washer, table saw, and other tools necessary to the completion of assigned tasks.
- Prep, paint, and cleanup, interior and exterior facilities.
- Participate in the setup and breakdown of City resources used for events, including; tents, tables, chairs, waste receptacles, and any other resources necessary to City events.
- Assist in cleaning activities; pressure washing, construction clean up, demolition material removal.
- Act as support labor for the skilled trades i.e. electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, or any other City department.
- Receive and execute verbal or written directives from superiors and report back on progress to supervisors at the end of the day.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY:
- Knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques used in the construction and repair of building structures.
- Knowledge of carpentry and skill in the use of related hand and power tools as well as a variety of mechanical trades
- Knowledge of related occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
- Ability to plan and direct the work of skilled and semiskilled tradesmen.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints and sketches.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
HS diploma or GED. Considerable journeyman level experience in a variety of construction, mechanical and general trades; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:
Current valid Florida driver's license.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel;
reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to walk, sit, and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
