SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position uses manual labor to perform unskilled tasks of a physically demanding nature in an assigned area of responsibility.
Assigned areas can include collection of household and commercial refuse and recycling as well as construction, maintenance and repair activities of roadways and related structures;
installation and maintenance of traffic controls; planting, pruning and maintaining trees and landscaping. This position performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor.
An individual hired as a Laborer I will be non-competitively promoted to Laborer II upon completing six months of satisfactory City service in the position.
This position must establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, vendors and the Public.
The principal duties of this position are performed in an outdoor work environment with potential personal hazards.
QUALIFICATIONS :
High School diploma or GED from an accredited school or at least one year of related experience in refuse collection or roadway maintenance;
or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the essential requirements of work. Must possess a valid Real ID Maryland Class C Drivers license, or a comparable license issued by the employees state of residence, and a proven safe driving record.
Must have the ability to acquire Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) or American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Flagger Certification Card within six (6) months of employment with the City.
Completion of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) command courses required by the City Office of Emergency Management within six (6) months of employment with the City. EOE.
MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL examination, Including a DRUG SCREEN, AND A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK.
