What are the responsibilities and job description for the Video Producer/Media Specialist position at City Of League City?
Under general supervision of the Communications Manager, the Video Producer/ Media Specialist will be responsible for producing dynamic video content for the City of League City through engaging storytelling that promotes effective communication with its citizens. This includes video production for the City’s municipal channel, website, social media, promotional materials and internal videos for training, presentations and other purposes.
- Develops messages with video, photography, and other digital media working with the Communications Manager and other employees in the Communications Department to support City department goals, programs, events, and City-wide initiatives.
- Produces digital video and multimedia messages including script-writing, story boarding, field production, video recording, editing, graphic elements, and distributing content through City channels (such as YouTube and Facebook) and via commercial broadcast media.
- Purchases and maintains video cameras, still cameras, audio and lighting equipment, editing software, computers, and other production equipment; researches new software and equipment for digital video production; manages budget and PEG fund for cable operations.
- Manages video production studio including equipment, scheduling, and use of facility.
- Directs the operations of the City’s municipal channel 16 including content production, scheduling, and equipment research/budgeting.
- Documents various city projects for departments such as city manager's, parks and recreation, development services, utility services, municipal services, emergency services.
- Operates a variety of television broadcast equipment, field production and some experience with drones or UAV/UAS.
- Serves as an essential employee during extreme weather events and/or emergency circumstances.
- Available to work weekends and evenings as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college or university with major course work in video production, multimedia, mass communications or related fields.
- Minimum of (3) years of experience in all aspects of video production and digital still photography.
- Minimum of (3) years of experience with Mac and PC computers. Ability to demonstrate extensive knowledge of programs such as Apple Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Photoshop, Premiere and Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint and the Microsoft Office Suite. Must provide samples of previous video work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Audio/Video Production, Broadcast Journalism or related field, and three (3) years of experience in video production; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Journalistic standards for visual and written communication.
- Multimedia and video production, photo composition, and visual storytelling.
- New and emerging trends in communication media and technology.
- Creating multimedia narratives and messages using digital video programs and equipment.
- Using professional-grade digital video cameras, still cameras, audio equipment, lighting equipment, and video editing software such as Adobe Premier Pro or Final Cut Pro, as well as other programs such as After Effects, Audition, and Illustrator.
- Writing scripts, reports, advertisements, and other forms of written communication.
- Using programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint to create reports, budgets, and other documents.
- Communicating effectively with others, in writing and face-to-face interaction.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City employees, vendors, and the public.
- Working effectively and efficiently without direct supervision.
- Reading and comprehending City policies, budgets, goals, and programs.
Ability to:
- Handle and prioritize multiple tasks and work with possible frequent interruptions, changes in priorities, and short notice requests.
- Function productively as a member of a creative team.
- Take a project from concept to completion with minimal supervision and direction.
