Position Summary
Maintains City financial records in compliance with generally accepted governmental accounting principles. Performs all general ledger transactions, reporting and reconciliation with specific emphasis in financial reporting. Additionally, facilitates and conducts internal audits to validate compliance and accuracy in financial record-keeping processes.
Essential Functions
- Documents audit findings and prepares detailed reports for management review.
- Accountable for reviewing and making necessary adjustments to journal entries that impact the general ledger.
- Coordinates and completes journal entry posting and procedures for timely monthly closing.
- Performs reconciliation of selected balance sheet accounts monthly. Prepares any necessary adjusting journal entries.
- Functions as a backup to the Senior Accountant for the reconciliation of the City’s major consolidated bank statement and resolves all discrepancies.
- Reviews and correctly codes the general ledger interface postings from other systems.
- Prepares financial reports and analysis as needed.
- Prepares year-end closing entries and work papers for selected funds and accounts in compliance with GASB standards.
- Uses all application software as assigned.
- Supports independent firm with annual audit process.
- Assists in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) by completing individual, combining and entity-wide statements and tables.
- Completes specialized analytical projects as assigned.
- Functions as a backup for mailing out and in-take.
- Coordinates internal audits by collaborating with consultants and various departments to gather necessary information.
- Conducts internal audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and compliance with policies and regulations.
- Assists in the tracking and reporting of city-owned assets, to include acquisition, depreciation, and disposal of assets.
- Assists in the tracking and reporting of city grants.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related business field required.
Experience
- 1 year of increasingly responsible accounting experience required.
- Municipal accounting experience or internal/external audit experience preferred.
Any combination of related, education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the job's essential functions is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.

Skills
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel capabilities including pivot tables, V-lookup and additional functions used to manipulate data in performing the accounting tasks as assigned when necessary.
Other Requirements

Work Hours
Monday-Thursday 7:30am-5:30pm, Friday 7:30am-11:30am
