What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water & Meter Services - Maintenance Worker position at City of Liberty?
Due to internal growth, we're looking for a MAINTANENCE WORKER I in our Water/Meter Services Division. In this role, you will perform skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of city water infrastructure; undertake a variety of maintenance activities pertaining to utilities water meter services and perform other related duties, as assigned. In this position you will also be responsible for exercising valves throughout the city and will be heavily involved in our unidirectional flushing (UDF) program.

- 7am – 3:30pm
- On-call rotation every 4-5 weeks, with minimum call-out pay

- Proactively support department functions ensuring community’s needs are being met.
- Perform maintenance activities in assigned Utilities Maintenance Water Services Division.
- Help set up safe work zones to control traffic flow in or around emergency repairs using barricades, cones, signs, traffic flaggers, and light towers for night work.
- Operate a variety of equipment to include valve exercising/hydro excavating trailer, pickup trucks, dump trucks and a variety of hand tools.
- Maintain assigned vehicles, tools and equipment needed for maintenance and repairs; perform minor repairs; report needed major repairs to immediate supervisor.
- Assist in documentation of daily activities.
- When on-call, participate in the repair and or replacement of drinking water infrastructure such as repair deteriorated water mains, service lines, valves, meter set ups, and fire hydrants, as well as issues in the sewer collection system such as main backups, sewer main breaks, SSO’s, or other sewer emergencies.
- Assist in daily operations to positively impact our community and enhance services provide to our residents.
- Possibly assist in removal of snow and ice from city street infrastructure if needed.
- Proactively engage and interact with citizens to ensure their customer experience leaves a positive impact.
- Qualified techniques, formats and/or instructions for performing essential functions of position.
- Basic operations, services, and activities of assigned department.
- Basic principles of office and/or departmental procedures and equipment.
- Professional written and verbal communication standards.
- Knowledge of city infrastructure.
- Learn the functions of work order process, ARC/GIS Field Mapping App,
- Work in an outside environment including inclement weather days such as rain, cold, heat, etc.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from residents in the field in a professional, positive, friendly and helpful manner.
- Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in the area of work assigned.
- No experience required. Some experience performing water distribution infrastructure maintenance is desirable.
- Equivalent to a high school diploma/GED
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and tank endorsement (within 6-12 months of employment).
- Required Completion of City provided training and certifications for Temporary Traffic Control/Flagger, Trenching Shoring Competent Person, Permit Required Confined Space Entry (within 1 year of employment) as well a Department of Natural Resources Water Distribution System Operator DS-1 Certificate (within 2 years of employment).
