What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern II - Traffic, Part-Time position at City of Loveland?
GENERAL PURPOSE:
This program is intended to provide a student/intern position involving collection of field data and working in the office, for the Civil Engineer in the Traffic Operations Division of the Public Works Department.
The salary range for this position is $15.16- $20.47, depending on qualifications and experience.
Position will remain open until filled.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work effectively in ArcGIS, MS Word, Excel, and other traffic programs.
- Use computer software to generate traffic count and speed zone reports.
- Place and remove traffic counters and other devices.
- Conduct intersection turning movement counts using a traffic count board or by hand.
- Assist the civil engineer in conducting traffic studies (signal warrant, parking travel time, etc.)
- Interpret collision diagrams and police accident records and enter traffic accident data into the City’s database system.
- Set and remove speed radar trailer for the Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Must be a self-directed, team player. Handle multiple tasks to provide assistance to both internal and external customers while maintaining a positive attitude. Maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and customers by employing effective interpersonal skills.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Have a general understanding of inventory of Traffic Control Devices. Working knowledge of: ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro, MS Excel, MS Word. Apply techniques, principles and practices of engineering, data management and time management. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and through spreadsheets or databases. Respectfully interact and communicate with co-workers and the public. Independently work safely on heavily traveled roadways.
Education and/or formal training:
Current Civil Engineering undergraduate student preferred.
License/Certification:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Working environment/physical activities:
The work environment of this position requires the individual to perform the duties in an office environment and in the field. This position requires using common hand tools, vehicles, and computers. Much of the work is completed in the field, requiring driving to traffic count locations, repetitive lifting of traffic counters and work with field equipment that can weigh up to 50 pounds in heavily traveled roadways.
