What are the responsibilities and job description for the PARKS MAINTENANCE TRADESWORKER position at City of Maitland?
Work Schedule:
Required: Friday, Saturday Sunday 6am-4:30pm w/ 30 minute lunch
Required: Every other Mon / Thurs 11:45am-10:15pm w/ 30 minute lunch

Performs a variety of routine semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment in maintenance operations, repair, and maintenance of city parks and facilities. Works under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, or assigned designee.
This position is considered an emergency/disaster position. During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation, which requires that the employee be ready, willing, and able to report to work during emergencies and/or disasters of any kind, notwithstanding any other commitments the employee may have and be able perform emergency services duties, as assigned.Opens and/or closes City parks and associated facilities.
Performs daily inspection and ensures cleanliness of recreation site(s) to include emptying trashcans located at: restrooms, walkways/boardwalks, pavilions, playground equipment, tot lots, picnic areas, tennis courts, volleyball courts, bus stops, and athletic courts.
Monitors recreation site(s) to ensure safe operations. Evaluates and makes recommendation by performing routine corrective/preventative maintenance on recreational equipment and associated facilities to include fitness trails, benches, tables, drinking fountains, tennis court windscreens and nets, basketball hoops, playground equipment, bollards, fences/gates to athletic fields courts, and other common park amenities. Reports required maintenance/replacement needs immediately to supervisor.
Performs janitorial duties to include but not limited to: cleaning bathrooms, emptying trashcans, mopping floors, cleaning graffiti, replenishing toiletries, and other duties as needed.
Ensures proper operator maintenance of motorized equipment and power tools. Cleans and inspects equipment and tools prior to and after use to ensure they are in good working order.
Performs minor maintenance repairs on park site amenities, playground equipment, bus stop amenities, restroom facilities, signs, picnic tables, etc. Work includes general repairs, painting, performing preventative maintenance, digging, raking, cleaning, installing or assembly of equipment and other duties as necessary to ensure proper maintenance and operation of park and recreation amenities.
Performs required labor involved in construction of new park amenities and maintenance projects as part of a crew.
Assists with department programming needs that involve special events, classes, programs, etc. These duties would include set-up and break down of tables, equipment, and temporary signage, moving supplies, and assisting in other support roles of programming needs as required.
Requires occasional weekend and after hour work in support of special events and programs.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Sweeping and cleaning of work areas and work vehicles. Completing forms, writing reports, and delivering messages.
Interacting with park patrons in a polite and professional manner to assist with informational requests.
Performs all other duties as assigned.High school diploma or equivalent. One or more years’ experience performing work in the building and/or parks and recreation trades, or any equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Must also possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700 within 30 days of employment and the ICS-100 within 90 days of employment. There may be additional NIMS required, which will be scheduled by your Supervisor. Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in facilities, grounds and recreational maintenance, skill in the operation of common and uncommon tools and equipment.
Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely; ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
