General Statement of Duties
The Welfare Specialist I will assess applicants" need for local welfare assistance and will help applicants access other local services which they may qualify for. The ideal candidate will have the ability to multitask in a fast paced environment while providing exceptional customer service to a diverse population. They will perform a variety of high level clerical and social service duties. Knowledge of social service agencies in the Manchester area a plus. Performs directly related work as required.
Examples of Essential Work
Interviews applicants to determine their economic and social service needs and refers them to a Welfare Specialist II or an appropriate resource;
Answers all incoming calls;
Interviews applicants with immediate emergency assistance needs, makes eligibility determination and provides assistance as applicable;
Reviews and verifies confidential client information;
Coordinates resources and provides immediate service intervention as needed;
Monitors and reacts immediately to security devices if client becomes hostile or violent;
Maintains paperwork necessary for the department;
Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions; and more.
Acceptable Experience and Training
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in a related social science field; and
Some experience in social services; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
