The City of Marinette has an exciting employment opportunity working with Municipal Court as a Court Clerk. The successful candidate will be expected to perform court administrative, confidential office and court accounting tasks, under the direction of the Municipal Judge, for the City of Marinette. The work will involve, but not limited to, preparing court dockets, processing citations, coordinating court matters, processing payments, maintaining organized and accurate records as well as responding to record requests. Outstanding customer service skills are an absolute requirement for this position due to the high volume, high pressure, multi-tasking environment within which the candidate must perform critical tasks.
Qualifications: Two years’ clerical experience, preferably in a judicial/legal/law enforcement environment. Must be proficient in Microsoft Suite. Prior court clerk experience is preferred, but not required.
Pay Scale: $20.59 - $24.22/hr
Job Type: Part-Time, 20 hours a week, Monday – Friday. Hours vary between 7:30am – 4pm.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS A. Download citation information to computer court program. B. Receive and process fine and fee payments. Record payment on computer record. Process credit card and tax intercept payments. C. Provide information to and answer questions from defendants regarding payments and municipal court procedures. D. Process in-coming and out-going mail. E. Prepare daily deposits, refund and restitution checks and related correspondence. F. Process monthly financial reports and submit to City Clerk/Treasurer. G. Process routine correspondence for past due fine payments including: warning letters, Tax Intercept notice to certify debt, license suspensions, summons, warrants and jail commitments. H. Evaluate adjourned and continued cases on a monthly basis regarding needed action. I. Prepare, print and distribute court calendar to police and news media. J. Prepare for and clerks municipal court proceedings. Assemble needed files, records and worksheets. Accept fine and fee payments. Record trial and motion hearing proceedings. K. For every initial appearance, pretrial and trial, process citations and notify Department of Transportation regarding court actions. Record court action in municipal records. Notify non-appearances of default determinations and issue warrants. Mail assessment forms, conviction status reports, suspensions and reinstatements. L. Prepare a variety of documents such as notifications, memos, policies, forms, correspondence and reports. Prepare from letters for default, failure to appear and rescheduled court proceeding. M. Schedule trials and motion hearings; notify defendant, police officers and City Attorney. N. Process appeals to Circuit Court. Transfer QAWI cases to Circuit Court on Jury Requests. O. Work with Judge in preparing annual budget; meet with Auditors on annual basis. P. Maintain records – short & long term; case files & payment records; continued cases; suspensions, summons, warrants and filing. Q. Update bond schedule and Municipal Ordinance Bond Deposit Schedule as needed. R. Verify monthly warrant list for county. S. Calculate closed cases and process quarterly report for state. T. Complete surveys regarding municipal court activities. REQUIRED ABILITIES A. Maintain knowledge of applicable current federal, state and municipal laws and related court decisions. B. Participate in on-going training (annual Court Clerk Seminar; Judicial Education Classes; District Court Clerk meetings; annual Quick Clerk Training). C. Answer telephone; take and relay messages. D. Photocopy materials; sort and file court records and perform other clerical tasks as needed. E. Classify, compute and tabulate data and information, following a prescribed plan requiring the exercise of some judgment. Compare, count, differentiate, measure and sort information. Assemble, copy, record and transcribe data and information. F. Explain, demonstrate and clarify court procedures. Read, proof, comprehend and follow instructions. G. Utilize a wide variety of information, such as state statutes, correspondence, court clerk manual, City ordinances, driving records, citations, warrants, statistical reports, bond schedule, occupational licenses, computer software operating manual. H. Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department heads, employees, general public and other agency staff. I. Plan, organize and practice effective time management skills. J. Add and subtract, multiply and divide, and calculate percentages, fractions, and decimals. Interpret basic descriptive statistical reports. K. Use functional reasoning and apply rational judgment in performing diversified work activities. L. Exercise good judgment, decisiveness and creativity in various situations. QUALIFICATIONS A. Requires a High School diploma and special course work beyond High School or vocational/technical training in secretarial science or related field. B. Requires two years’ responsible clerical experience including work processing and public contact. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS OF THE WORKPLACE A. Work under safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors in minimal and poses little to no risk of injury. PHYSICAL DEMANDS A.
