Job Description
Under direction, the Heavy Equipment Operator II operates and maintains heavy equipment to include, Street Sweepers, Patch Trucks, Front End Loaders, Backhoes, Various Paving equipment, Flush/Vacuum Truck. Employee works under moderate direction from his/her Crew Leader or Supervisor. Employee has no supervisory responsibilities of personnel. Employee must abide by all safety rules and operational policies and procedures and perform all other duties as needed or required. Job Responsibilities
1. Position requires driving and operating several of the heavy duty equipment identified below.
2. Performs preventive maintenance on the equipment.
3. Maintains a record of the equipment operations.
4. Maintains a Daily Activity Report to include opening and closing work orders.
5. Employee receives occasional direction from the HEO III responsible for the project.
6. Assist other personnel in the department whenever necessary.
7. Provides support to the other Heavy Equipment Operators as needed.
8. Job requires working evenings, weekends, holidays and during hurricane or other emergencies, when needed.
9. Required to be on stand-by (on call waiting to be engaged to work) when necessary.
10. Required to follow all safety rules and regulations.
11. Performs other job related duties as assigned or necessary. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Requirements - 1. An accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
2. Job requires three (3) years of related work experience.
3. Job requires a valid Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with Air brakes.
4. Must have a general knowledge of road construction & maintenance and/or storm water system infrastructure maintenance & construction.
5. Must demonstrate critical thinking skills in solving field conflicts.
6. Must have ability communicate (read/write) in English; bilingual skills in English and Spanish preferred.
7. Must be able to manage time efficiently with self initiative. Physical Requirements
1. Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold weather conditions.
2. Work involves operating a piece of equipment, normally from a sitting position, as well as frequent physical labor.
3. Works outdoors and works some unusual hours, irregular hours or shifts, with hazards which may result in lost time.
