ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Works under the direct supervision of an assigned supervisor performing various manual and general labor assignments. Picks up and collects trash/litter and commercial refuse. Maintains upkeep of clean city streets, facility grounds and thoroughfares as assigned. Loads and unloads materials and equipment, lifts and moves furniture or other material assigned. May pick up and deliver various supplies and equipment by traveling to various city facilities. May operate standard and automatic shift vehicles such as pick-up truck and lawn equipment in performing assigned task. Notifies supervisor of repairs and maintenance work needed. May perform routine cleaning such as mopping, sweeping and cleaning restrooms of assigned buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the use of hand and motorized tools and equipment such as rake, broom, riding and push mower, weed trimmer, blower, billygoat vacuum, and floor stripper/buffer to perform various assigned job functions. Requires the ability to perform heavy manual work which will involve bending, kneeling, reaching, pulling, pushing, crouching, and standing for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Must be able to traverse on various surfaces. Must be able to operate various equipment and automobiles, including pick-up trucks, mini-vans and riding mowers to perform assigned duties at various locations throughout the City.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work may be performed in both indoors and/or outdoors environment based upon work assignment. Work may be performed in adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to odors, noise, dust, pollen, fumes and chemicals such as pesticides.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to understand written and verbal instructions. May be required to work nights and weekends. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment in performing assigned task if employed in Fire Division’s Logistical Services, Public Works’ Ground Services, and Park Division’s Botanical Gardens.
The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County within six (6) months from the date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
