This is semi-skilled work in the caring and maintenance of facilities, which may require public contact responsibilities. Work requires the application of skills, generally of a journeyman level in several different trades, particularly those of carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and masonry. Grounds maintenance work is also performed.
An employee in this position performs routine maintenance requiring some degree of independent judgment. Most work is subject to checks and controls or verified by others. General supervision is received from the Facility Manager or designee. May be assigned as lead worker over a small group of City or contractual workers temporarily assigned to perform work at a facility.
Duties require considerable physical activity and are performed under occasional hazardous conditions and require normal attention to prevent errors. Employees in this classification may be required to work split shifts and/or unusual hours. Reports to the Facility Manager or designee. Inspections are made of completed work from time to time to determine quantity and quality of work done.
Performs minor carpentry, masonry, electrical, and plumbing repairs.
Performs handyman and maintenance functions to include painting, moving furniture and other heavy items that may require the use of ladders and hand tools.
Performs as lead worker and participates in the setting up and taking down of chairs, bleachers, staging, tables and other equipment for scheduled activities in the convention center or other venue.
May oversee the work performed by contractual service workers, facility workers and other assigned personnel. Inspects and reviews work performed by the crews.
Assists skilled workers in the repair and maintenance of facility, its structures, and grounds.
Participates in the storage of all required supplies and equipment delivered to the facility as needed. Assists the public, often under stressful conditions. May escort visitors and potential users who wish to tour the facility.
Coordinates the maintenance operations of facilities during and after events. Checks for possible safety violations. Coordinates the transport of supplies and equipment.
Operates industrial vacuum, forklift, floor scrubbing machine, and other tools and equipment.
Performs related work as required.
High school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years experience in working with the public at a large stadium, convention center/exhibition center, marina or golf course or similar setting. Considerable four (4) years increasingly responsible maintenance experience at one or more of the facilities is required.
A Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources and must be maintained valid throughout employment.

Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of the required experience.
