POSITION SUMMARY
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Develops, implements, and supervises group & aquatic fitness staff and classes for customers and city employees; performs other duties as required or assigned.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The principal function of an employee in this class is to develop and implement Group and Aquatic Fitness classes. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Fitness and Wellness Supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, community and neighborhood organizations, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a recreational and fitness environment.

- Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work performance of Group and Aquatic Fitness employees.
- Selects qualified instructors, directs training procedures, conducts meetings, administers evaluations, disciplines when necessary, verifies employee compliance, compiles schedules of classes and instructors to provide coverage for all classes.
- Maintains thorough and accurate records, including personnel files, class attendance, equipment inventory, department budget, and other records as required.
- Maintains a safe environment for fitness classes, including inspecting equipment for damage as well as following proper protocol and guidelines in the event of an accident or incident.
- Assists with special events related to the job assigned.
- Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions.
