THE DEPARTMENT:
The Engineering & Public Works Department is responsible for the City's assets including all infrastructure, right of way, facilities and fleet of vehicles and equipment. The Engineering Division oversees the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Storm Water and Environmental Compliance, and Traffic Safety, as well as Engineering Permits, Plan Checks and Inspections for private development, while the Public Works operations team provides services and maintains the City's infrastructure through its Parks, Streets & Wastewater, Facilities, and Fleet & Equipment Maintenance Divisions.

THE POSITION:
Works independently at assigned buildings, facilities, or group of buildings; maintains space clean and orderly; prepares rooms for meetings; and performs related duties as required. Position reports to the Custodial Supervisor.

ALTERNATIVE WORK SCHEDULE:
City employees work a 4/10 workweek, Monday through Thursday, or Tuesday through Friday. Custodian work schedules vary depending on the facility assigned, but generally start between the hours of 6am and 8am, and end between 4:30pm and 6:30pm. Occasionally, Custodians may be assigned to support events in the evenings or weekends, when needed

PART-TIME POSITIONS:
Appointments to part-time positions are paid on an hourly basis, do not receive benefits, and work schedule may consist of weekdays, nights, and/or weekends.

NOTE:

• This classification is scheduled to receive a wage increase of 5.68% effective the first full pay period in January 2024.

The following duties and responsibilities are representative of those typically performed by positions assigned to this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these duties and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.

• Cleans offices and other areas in one or more public buildings, including toilets and kitchens.
• Sweeps, mops, and waxes floors.
• Vacuums and shampoos rugs.
• Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork.
• Replenishes supplies.
• Sets up rooms for meetings.
• Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
• Washes windows.
• Polishes metal work.
• Turns out lights and locks doors and windows.
• Performs minor building and related equipment maintenance repair work.
• Maintains proper care of equipment and materials used in the work.
• May be required to drive from one assignment to another.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

EXPERIENCE:

• Demonstrated commercial experience in the custodial care of buildings and facilities; and the ability to read and write in English at a level necessary for successful job performance.

• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
• License must be maintained during the entire term of employment in this job classification.
• Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid California Class C Driver's License and current copy of their driving record.
