The City of Norfolk is seeking a Counselor III to join the Norfolk Community Services Board.
Responsibilities include assessment and treatment planning, the provision of substance abuse counseling and case management services primarily to persons with co-occurring problems.
The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.
Today, the CSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. - Provides comprehensive assessments for persons with substance abuse issues.
- Develops individualized treatment plans, which respond to the needs of the person served and their family as identified by the assessment and coordinates the initial and periodic treatment plans with the Medical Services component.
- Participates in case reviews as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Determines from assessment the appropriate services to be provided, the most appropriate service providers, and ensures that the person served is linked with those services.
- Provides individual, group and family counseling services as outlined in each treatment plan. Provides crisis counseling on an as needed basis.
- Teaches Substance Abuse education and revises curriculum as needed.
- Keeps up to date, well documented records which comply with Federal, State, and agency requirements.
- Monitors persons receiving services from other service providers and advocates for the person to ensure accessibility and acceptability of services.
- Collects and reports service statistics and data on persons served as required.
- Processes admissions and discharges in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Participates in regular supervision as agreed upon with their direct supervisor.
- Assists in the development and implementation of special projects, e.g., specialized groups, etc. at the request of the Program Supervisor.
- Monitors urine drug screen results as required by the treatment plan.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Three years experience, in treatment of persons with substance abuse, mental health or co-occurring disorders.
Must possess a CSAC (Substance Abuse Counselor Certification). Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record as reported by the Department of Motor Vehicles are required for persons using a personal or agency vehicle in the performance of their duties.
Work Hours: Monday — Friday 8:30 am — 5:00 pm, 40 hours per week however work schedule is flexible including evening hours as required at least 2 nights per week. Serves Shelter duty, when necessary, per City of Norfolk's staff rotation list.
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.
