The City of Norfolk, Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced Program Supervisor. The primary role will be to supervise field staff and coordinate, distribute and ensure satisfactory completion of field assignments. Field assignments to include citizen concerns related to roadway signage, pavement markings, street lighting and pedestrian infrastructure. Additionally, this position will assist the Senior Design/Construction Project Manager with assigned projects and will perform other duties as assigned.Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to supervise staff that are located off-site.
- Assign field investigations requested by citizens to staff based on service area. Monitor and ensure that field investigations are conducted and completed in a timely manner.
- Provide mentoring and training to field investigators and new hires.
- Work plan development for success and progression. Encouragement for needed improvements and discipline only if necessary.
- Positive verbal communications for external and internal clients.
- Business writing skills for report preparation, email and letter preparation.
- Presentation preparation skills that concisely convey the City's message to the Citizen.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Ability to identify or a desire to learn traffic signs, transportation conditions, and traffic control and the practical application of these measures.
- Knowledge and/or experience with MUTCD.
- Ability to create a work plan (formal or informal) to see an assigned project to completion.
- Ability to pivot between tasks to complete an urgent assignment. Required:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5 years of progressively responsible experience in Program Management. Preferred:
- Experience with transportation assignments, including multimodal transportation planning, project development and management. Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and as needed Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus.
