Nauticus, is seeking a dynamic, events-minded individual to serve as Cruise Ship Operations Coordinator. This position will manage the logistics and operations of Virginia’s only cruise ship terminal and operation.
Nauticus is a maritime discovery center located along the waterfront in downtown, Norfolk offering a unique form of experiential learning for all ages. Through interactive exhibits and STEM to STERN programming, Nauticus uses the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, and Schooner Virginia to tell the story of the maritime environment, industry, and the military. Additionally, Nauticus manages and oversees Virginia’s only cruise ship operation.

Starting Salary: $46,583
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Serve as primary point of contact for all cruise ship staff, passengers and associated individuals
- Facilitate all aspects of passenger and crew operations including (but not limited to) site preparation, passenger movement, staff coordination, and pier-side planning
- Manage cruise ship schedules and work with individual cruise lines to reserve Norfolk’s cruise ship pier
- Work with downtown partners and other community stakeholders to provide a welcoming, guest-focused experience for cruise passengers
- Prepare and maintain port security files, assist with the development and updating of the Facility Security Plan. Serve as a Facility Security Officer
- Perform routine administrative duties to facilitate cruise operations
- Communicate logistics to organizers, promoters, tenants, customers, staff, event personnel, impacted stakeholders and the public
- Supervise personnel and volunteers and provide direct supervision to cruise event staff
- Using excellent customer service skills, establish and maintain working relationships with cruise line officials, cruise ship staff, external stakeholders and cruise-related government agencies
- Ability to stand, for extended periods of time, lift from ground to above shoulder, climb, bend stoop, sit, push, pull and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Two years of event and/or facilities management, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Commercial Driver's license may be required depending upon area of assignment.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, lift from ground to above shoulder, climb, bend, stoop, sit, push, pull, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
The preferred candidate will possess:
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- TWIC Card Eligibility required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Work Hours: Work hours/days vary dependent upon cruise activity; 40 hours per week. Position requires some evening, holiday, and weekend shifts.
Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus. The signing bonus will be paid in two (2) increments: $2,500 upon completion of 60 days of employment, and $2,500 upon completion of your probationary period. To receive the signing bonus, you must be an active employee in good standing.
