The City of Norfolk's Department of Recreation, Community Wellness/Recreation Programs is seeking a Recreation Activity Instructor for Fitness Programming to assist in the planning and implementation of various levels of fitness programming.
Departmental Salary Hiring Range: $16.25/hour
Essential functions include but are not limited to:- Teaches various levels of fitness programming.
- Provide classroom management by scheduling, monitoring students, compiling curriculums, redirecting when needed and providing feedback to students.
- Interacts with citizens by providing excellent customer service, responding to inquiries about class, organizing and leading classes contribute to the growth and development of youth, teens, adults, and seniors.
- Market recreation programs by distributing flyers and announcements to the participants.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates recreational classes as well as aids employees when needed.
- Must have education &/or experience in various specialty fitness programs. Beginning/intermediate/advanced level for adult instruction.
- Must have good customer skills.
Fitness Instructors Needed: Aerobics, Boot Camps, Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Kickboxing, Strength TrainingWork requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with two years of education and/or experience past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources.
Must have education &/or experience in teaching group fitness.
At least two years instructional experience, preferred.
Valid Driver's License.
CPR/First Aid Certification within six months of employment.

Work Hours: Monday to Sunday; 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.; not to exceed 40 hours per week; flexible hours will applyincluding weekends, holidays, and special events.
