- Pay - The starting hourly pay for this position is $36.59 (step 1). All new employees hired for this position will start at step 1 of the range; no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.

THE ROLE:
This lead position is responsible for overseeing, directing, assigning, and reviewing the work performance of full-time or part-time Bailiffs in the Municipal Court relating to maintaining Courtroom and Courthouse security. This position also includes performing the full range of bailiff duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of full-time and part-time Bailiffs who are performing professional duties in the Municipal Court related to maintaining Court security. Provide overall technical and administrative direction to personnel.
- Participate in the training, evaluation, and disciplinary processes involving subordinates.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives of the department; prepare and implement operation policies and procedures.
- Operates the security and metal detection systems of the Court to eliminate all dangerous and deadly weapons.
- Maintains order and safety in the public lobby.
- Opens and locks secured areas and facilities; sets up courtroom for operation.
- Maintains order and decorum in the courtroom.
- Provides safety and security for the judge, court staff, attorneys, and the public in the courtroom and in the public areas of the courthouse facility.
- May serve warrants within the Justice Facility.
- Initiate booking sheets and other court documents on subjects remanded to custody by the court.
- Assists transportation officers in moving detainees to and from courtroom, holding cells, and vehicles.
- Preserve law and order; discover and prevent the commission of crimes; and enforce laws and ordinances.
- Maintain contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve a positive relationship with the public; maintain active role in areas of public education relative to the judicial system.
- Attend training sessions on changes in laws pertaining to arrests, the use of force and other law enforcement related issues, use of new equipment and procedures.
- Take emergency action and/or notifies emergency personnel as the situation warrants; may administer basic first aid or CPR if required.
- May perform general office support work, deliver or pick-up documents and other materials and assist the judge in other ways as instructed.
- May operate video recording equipment in the courtroom.
- Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent and;
- Minimum age of 21(at time of application), U.S. citizen, character above reproach.
- Three (3) years full-time experience as a Bailiff or equivalent Law Enforcement experience in a court setting; or three (3) years of full-time experience as a Nevada P.O.S.T. Category II (or higher) Certified Law Enforcement Officer.
- Bilingual proficiency is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
- Must possess a valid Nevada P.O.S.T Category II (or higher) certification at the time of application. Weapons qualification is required for duty weapon.
- Applicants with P.O.S.T. certifications outside the state of Nevada must provide documentation at time of application proving their certification meets Nevada P.O.S.T. Category II standards or above.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
Medical Standards
- Must meet City’s medical standards at time of hire and for duration of employment.
- Visual Acuity: Vision 20/20 in best eye and not worse than 20/30 in worse eye with/without correction. If correction is necessary, uncorrected vision no worse than 20/100 in each eye.
- Color Vision: Must recognize 4/6 plates on titmus color vision test
- Hearing: Average hearing 1000/2000/3000 HZ must not exceed 25db. No single reading to exceed 35db at 500/1000/2000/3000/4000HZ. A hearing aid can be accepted with a letter from an audiologist indicating proper fit and level of hearing correction in both ears.
Physical & Mental Abilities
- Ability to learn and follow rules and regulations of the NLV Municipal Court and of pertinent federal, state, and local laws, regulations, ordinances as applicable to the bailiff function.
- Ability to apply law enforcement principles, practices, methods, techniques and equipment as required on assignments.
- Ability to make quick, sound and logical decisions, sometimes in emergency situations, and be able to work under stress and strict discipline.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relationships.
- Ability to learn proper and correct care and use of firearms, camera, department radio, computers and other municipal court related equipment.
- Ability to work in a security type environment and manage stressful and potentially dangerous/difficult contact situations.
