Department: Equipment Services Reports to: Garage Manager
Summary: Under close supervision, assists Equipment Services Department (ESD) fleet Mechanics.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- As directed, assists Mechanics with repairs and maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment; maintains shop facility, cleans work areas, cleans up spills, and disposes of lubricants and chemicals in compliance with safety regulations and ESD procedures; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Learns to inspect vehicles and equipment, and perform minor repair, maintenance, and cleaning tasks.
- Support the departmental operations with regular and timely attendance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines: High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; AND 3 months of automotive servicing experience.
Knowledge of:
- State and City safety rules and regulations, including safety practices in a shop environment.
Skill in:
- Learning to inspect and perform minor repairs on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Following and maintaining ESD safety standards.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
License and certification requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required. A Texas State Commercial Driver's License Class A is required within three (3) months of hire. Must also obtain Texas State Vehicle Inspection License with three (3) months of hire.
Physical demands and working environment: Work is performed in fleet repair and maintenance facilities; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment. City approved safety shoes must be worn.
