The Museum Director leads the Oshkosh Public Museum in the achievement of its strategic goals through superior interpersonal management skills. The Museum Director will provide strong strategic and organizational guidance and effective leadership to Museum staff. The Museum Director occupies a leadership position within the Oshkosh community, so our next Museum Director must have outstanding communications skills, be exemplary in building community relationships and outreach, and maintain a positive public image. The Director will be a professional with demonstrated experience in Museum leadership.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in History, Anthropology, Education, or a related field and a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies or a related field.
- At least six years of experience working in a museum, including at least three in a leadership position.
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff at various career stages.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the public.
- Ability to articulate strategic plans and long-term vision for the Museum.
- Knowledge of museum administration and management, including general operations, budget development, and budget monitoring.
- Ability to be flexible and resourceful in fulfilling the mission of the Museum.
- Functional knowledge of collections management practices, applicable laws, and professional ethics.
- Demonstrated leadership skill in applying and advancing national museum standards as defined by AAM.
- Knowledge of museum education practices, including school-age, adult, and community programming.
- Ability to evaluate audience/community needs for increased and ongoing relevance of the Museum.
- Ability to build and maintain long-term relationships with community members and stakeholders.
- Ability to plan and execute strategies to increase philanthropic funding support.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to publicize the cultural and social values of the Museum through presentations articles, and other means.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $87,925.00 - $120,588.00 per year
