What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floodwall Operator position at City of Paducah, KY?
Under the supervision of the Floodwall Superintendent, maintains and repairs pumping and electrical equipment, flood control gates, etc.; performs general maintenance of structures and grounds.
Physical Requirements:
Must possess the ability to perform sustained moderate to heavy manual labor including lifting a minimum of 75lb., climbing access ladders to wet wells, does not suffer from acrophobia (fear of heights), claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces), and pass a pulmonary function test while maintaining an acceptable respiratory condition suitable for confined space entry and personal respiratory devices. Must be able to copy and record figures and operate an internal radio system.
- Inspects pump stations and floodwall to ensure proper and efficient operation of all equipment; reports major mechanical failures to Floodwall Superintendent; supervises pump operators on shift (e.g., keeps daily time books and pump plant shift records).
- Maintains, repairs, and adjusts equipment (e.g., pumps, bearings of shafts, electric motors, circuit breakers, volt and amp meters, dehumidification unit, etc.); lubricates mechanical equipment; performs routing electrical and mechanical repairs.
- Performs routine building and grounds maintenance tasks (e.g., operates tractors and bush hogs, grades with tractors and blades, cleans and unclogs drains, sweeps floors, picks up refuse, disposes of trash, etc.); maintains equipment in proper working order (e.g., cutting, welding and brazing); repairs floodwall and levees as needed.
- May be placed on call for emergencies 24 hours per day, 7 days per week when pump plant(s) are engaged.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Floodwall Superintendent.
