JOB SUMMARY
Performs work of a complex and technical nature in the repair and maintenance of the City’s information technology systems. The employee will install, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade computer hardware, software, personal computer networks, peripheral equipment, surveillance equipment, City-wide networks, and electronic mail systems; assist users in the effective use of applications and hardware; makes recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisitions; prepare documentation and provides user assistance to City staff; provide systems administration and perform related work as required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Installs and configures, workstations, servers, network components, telecommunications equipment, peripherals, and cabling.
- Troubleshoots computer, hardware, software, user, and network problems.
- Installs software, hardware, and network upgrades.
- Maintains internet, intranet, and email systems.
- Responds to service calls and work orders.
- Provides technical assistance and support to City staff.
- Maintains and/or modifies hardware, software, and cabling to correct errors, enhance performance or to satisfy user requests.
- Maintains and repairs servers, workstations, and laptops.
- Maintains and repairs LAN, WAN and WLAN networks.
- Maintains security software updates and installations.
- Responds to on call assignments for emergency repairs or other IT problems.
- Maintains proper technical documentation.
- Documents software and hardware installation procedures and operation instructions for users.
- Supports and maintain video surveillance systems, servers, and cameras.
- Supports and maintain security access systems and servers.
- Acts as system administrator to operate and maintain various components of the City’s Computer Systems including hardware, software, PCs and related equipment and services.
- Research new solutions for user/network issues; review network design and look for areas needing improvement.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED; and
- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible computer hardware, software support experience including installation and maintenance of networks, PC’s, Servers, and Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft office suite.
- Any training supplemented by documentation for computer hardware, software, and network courses, plus applicable experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to the City’s needs.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of this position will be considered.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Must maintain a valid State driver’s license.
- Two-year course of study in computer related technical courses, and/or an “A ” certification and/or a “Network ” certification and/or a Microsoft Certified Professional or higher certification.
Special Requirements:
- Must successfully pass job related tests, a pre-employment drug test, background investigation and possible polygraph examination.
- Must have a cell phone.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of PC’s and the ability to install, maintain, and diagnose Microsoft operating systems and application suites.
- Skill in uses of computers, laptops, cell phones, printers, test equipment, soldering irons, copy machine, fax machine, cable crimpers, power tools, ladders and the use of regular hand tools.
- Ability to treat all matters within the City of Page for all departments with extreme confidentiality.
- Ability to diagnose, test, maintain, and repair computer desktops, laptops, peripherals, servers, cabling, and networks.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with employees, vendors, city agents and citizens.
- Ability to follow standard office environment safety requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot computer problems quickly and efficiently to assure minimal down time.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to explain technical concepts and procedures to non-technical users.
- Installation and configuration of Ubiquit wireless and management system.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The following physical abilities are required: feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Employee must be willing to climb city owned towers and install equipment in high locations including the city’s main water tower. Employee must have the ability to learn and operate the city’s bucket truck for installations.
