The Information Technology Department’s mission is to provide technology solutions that enable City Staff to deliver services to the Palo Alto community. Our City and its departments depend on technology to deliver services. The Information Technology Department provides a broad range of high-quality, cost-effective solutions to employees, departments, council members, and the community for each to meet their respective goals. The IT Department provides over two hundred distinct technology solutions to the City of Palo Alto and maintains a governance model for aligning city goals, allocation of funds, and technology projects. Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- May be required to create and update information on the internet and intranet. Relieves department head and/or Sr. Management Analyst of certain administrative matters by following up on projects, transmitting information and keeping managers informed of department activities.
- Compiles and processes confidential materials related to the department's labor and employee relations issues; compiles a variety of narrative and statistical reports, locating sources of information, devising forms needed to secure data; determines proper format for finished reports; edit draft staff reports for grammatical and punctuation errors.
- Working with the Sr. Management Analyst, maintains departmental budgetary records, formulates portions of departmental or division budget requests, prepares annual budget request(s), requests for quotes, contract renewals, purchase requisition requests and exemption requests.
- Reviews City Council Agenda items; ensures background information and supporting materials are available; assists departments in maintaining agenda standards.
- Uses citywide accounting system (SAP) to monitor budgets, pay invoices, track payments, research payment history and rectify any errors.
- Serves as central liaison for department or division locations in the dissemination of information. Uses computers, software programs, other technology tools, and office equipment relevant to the department needs to perform a variety of administrative and technical tasks as assigned.
- Performs related duties of a similar nature or level.

Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge and skills, which would typically be acquired through:
Bachelor's degree in a related field
Three years of professional experience in public or business administration, public affairs, or a related field;
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Ideal Candidate Profile:The ideal candidate will have proficiency in and knowledge in the following:
- Advanced data compilation and analysis (vlookups, pivots, long-range forecasting, budget uploads, etc.); Knowledge of government finance and/or public administration is a plus. Extensive knowledge required in Excel and PowerPoint
- Budgeting and tracking actual revenues and expenditures
- Demonstrated ability to create strong partnerships through communication and interpersonal skills with various team members and leaders of all levels and functions throughout the organization
- Detail-oriented, organized and demonstrated an ability to multi-task and shift priorities quickly
- Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations
- Excellent customer service skills and an ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies including SAP
Salary : $96,262 - $144,394
