MAJOR FUNCTIONS

This is a skilled position requiring the operation of moderate / heavy level construction style equipment. Duties include the performance of manual labor tasks as well as operation.

On specific assignments, team members are supervised but may be required to work independently. Direction is provided by leadership with some independent judgement required.

This position is also considered an emergency essential position. An emergency essential position is required to perform a variety of functions to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse weather events (hurricane, tornado, flood etc.

or other contingencies (natural or manmade).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This includes the supervisory duties of the position and all technical tasks normally performed by the assigned Warehouse workers.

  • Operation of the high-pressure sewer cleaner truck.
  • Daily operation of dump truck, front end loader / backhoe, high pressure / sewer cleaner truck, excavator, crane truck, TV truck and other possible mobile equipment as the need or opportunity occurs.
  • Follows safety procedures and precautions at all times.
  • Maintains professional communication with internal and external customers at all times.
  • Drive a vehicle and / or equipment to various locations to complete tasks necessary for the maintenance and / or repair of lift stations.
  • Operate equipment and represent the City in a courteous and professional manner at all time.
  • Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the effective operations and maintenance of medium and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and effective precautionary measures necessary to avoid accidents.
  • Knowledge of the hazards involved in the use of heavy equipment and the safety precautions to be taken.
  • Ability to understand and carry out general instructions relating to construction and maintenance operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in the operation of heavy construction equipment.
  • Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative, courteous and effective working relationships with other departments and fellow team members.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Understanding of proper, safe lifting techniques

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma (or equivalency) is required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must possess and maintain the appropriate Florida Commercial driver license (CDL) or be able to obtain within a reasonable amount of time and / or at the direction and approval of the Lift Stations Superintendent.
  • Three (3) years experience in the operation and routine maintenance of the type of equipment to be operated.

A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

  • Consistently - Lift / Carry : 10 Lbs. or Less, Push / Pull : 12 Lbs. or Less, Handling / Fine Motor Skills, Sit, Walk, Type / Keyboard, Seeing, Hearing.

Risk / Safety Conditions :

  • This position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and / or physical safety (i.e., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment).
  • Both outdoor and indoor year-round work as related to the maintenance, repair, and construction of City buildings and structures.

Work Environment :

  • Work requires moderate to extreme exposure to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., inclement weather, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, strong odors, or dust).
